Around the country
Prices follow the house more than the county, but these are real quotes from around Ireland, so you can see the spread. Most semis land between €1,000 and €2,500 for the boards before anything unexpected turns up.
What moves the price
VAT
Repair and maintenance of a house is charged at the reduced VAT rate of 13.5%. Plenty of quotes are "plus VAT". On a €2,000 job the difference is €270, so ask for the written price to state it.
Comparing quotes
Two quotes for the same house can be €1,000 apart because they're not for the same job. Check each one lists: fascia, soffit and bargeboards; vented soffit; gutters and downpipes, new or refitted; taking away the old boards; scaffolding; what happens if rot is found; the guarantee; and VAT. The same list, line for line, makes the price clear.
Three steps
See it on your home
Take a photo of the front of your house, pick a colour, a gutter shape and the boards, and see the same house with the work done. Then ask for any change. Free, in about two minutes.

FAQ
€45 to €98 a metre for the boards, supplied and fitted. New gutters, fascia and soffit together come to about €180 a metre.
Not always. A two-storey or awkward roofline may need a tower or scaffold, adding a few hundred euro to about €2,000. Ask for it as its own line.
Different scope. One price may include gutters, downpipes, bargeboards, scaffolding and VAT, and another none of them.
Agree it in writing before work starts. A common split is half up front and half on completion, against a fixed written price.
Not for fascia and soffit on its own. With SEAI's external wall insulation grant the soffits usually need adjusting anyway, so plan the two together.
