uPVC fascia boards
uPVC fascia comes as full replacement boards, about 18 mm thick and fixed straight to the rafters, or thin capping boards, about 9 mm, that cover existing timber. Fitted, the boards cost €45 to €98 a metre and commonly last 20 to 30 years.
Free, no obligation. One local company prices it, not five.

Two kinds of board
Replacement fascia is thick enough to be load bearing on its own, typically 18 mm. It's fixed straight to the rafter ends once the old timber is off.
Capping boards, also called cover boards, are thin, typically 9 mm, and not load bearing. They're fixed over a backing board, normally the old timber fascia, and that board has to be free of rot and strong enough to carry the capping and the gutter.
Ask which one is quoted. A cheap price that's capping over tired timber isn't the same job as new boards. Capping vs full replacement goes through it.
Soffits and vents
Soffit boards come plain or vented. Where the attic is insulated at ceiling level, SEAI's standard asks for a continuous gap of at least 10 mm, or the same in vents, at the eaves. Where the insulation is at rafter level, at least 25 mm. Soffit vents or over-fascia vent strips both do it.
A vent in a new uPVC soffit does nothing if the timber behind it was left solid. Ask the fitter to show you the vents are open through to the roof space before the boards go up.
Colours
White and black are the standard colours and the base price. Anthracite grey is the colour most people ask for on Irish houses now. Woodgrain foils such as golden oak can cost up to twice as much, and dark brown can fade. Ask what guarantee the board maker gives on the colour, and pick the colour at the start: uPVC isn't meant to be painted.

FAQ
For a replacement board fixed to the rafters, a load-bearing board, typically 18 mm. Thin 9 mm boards are capping and need sound timber behind them.
If the roof is ventilated at the eaves, yes. SEAI's standard is a continuous 10 mm gap or equivalent where the attic is insulated at ceiling level.
It isn't meant to be painted, and paint can void the colour guarantee. Pick the colour you want at the start.
Commonly 20 to 30 years, with a wash once a year or so.
