Why together
The gutter hangs on the fascia
Every gutter bracket is screwed into the fascia board. To replace the fascia, the gutter has to come down anyway. Putting the old gutter back on new boards saves a little now, but its joints and brackets are usually the same age as the timber that failed, and the second job pays for access and labour twice.

Only the gutters need doing?
If the boards are sound and only the gutters leak, sag or overflow, that's a gutter job, not a fascia one. Tick "Fascia, soffit and gutters" on the form and say so in the details, or in Dublin use guttersdublin.ie; elsewhere, gutterreplacement.ie.
With wall insulation
Getting external insulation?
External wall insulation means the gutters and downpipes come off and the soffits often need cutting back or extending. SEAI's wall insulation grant is €6,000 for a semi and €8,000 for a detached house. Plan the two jobs together so the new roofline is fitted once, over the insulation.

Should gutters be replaced at the same time as fascia?
Usually, yes. The gutter has to come off to replace the fascia, and old gutters tend to be the same age as the boards. Ask for both priced separately so you can choose.
How much are new gutters on their own?
€1,000 to €1,800 for a semi-detached house in new uPVC.
Do downpipes come with it?
Ask. Some quotes include downpipes, some don't. Get it in writing.
